St Breward, Bodmin Moor, North Cornwall (with a side trip to Bedruthan Steps)
This week's photos come from a visit to St Breward on the edge of Bomin Moor. It wasn't a very good day weatherwise, with some heavy dark clouds and just the occasional break letting the sun shine through. The village itself is about 12 miles from Bodmin and is accessed from the Bodmin - Camelford road along a narrow country lane through Wenford Bridge and up the hill towards St Breward. The village seems to be about a mile long and probably a hundred yards wide, so compact its not !. At the top of the village you will find The Old Inn which is right next door to St Breward Parish Church and both are worth a visit, though probably not in that order. Just by the church you will find the AA sign seen in the second photograph below which probably dates from the fifties. Its looking a little worse for wear now, but I think that adds to the nostalgia. Does anyone remember the day when the AA patrolman would salute members passing him on the road on his motorcycle. I can remember an AA phone box on the Torpoint - Liskeard road just before the Looe turnoff, which of course has gone now. but very often on trips to Plymouth via the Torpoint Ferry before the Tamar Bridge had opened you would see a patrolman by the box, and yes he did salute. Nowadays he would more likely try and flog you insurance ! See you next week.
