Wednesday 11th July 2007 - Week 28
Holywell Bay, Near Newquay, Mid Cornwall
This week's photos are from a visit to Holywell Bay to the west of Newquay. After two weeks of generally poor weather it was a relief to get up on Sunday and see the sun in the sky. I parked in The National Trust car park at Holywell Bay (free to members) and walked towards Penhale Point. This headland belongs to the MOD , so I didn't take any photos of the installations, but there are some marvellous views here. Looking west you can see all the way down the coast as far as St Ives. To the north is Kelsy Head and Holywell Bay. Holywell Beach is a surfers paradise, but on this particular day the surf appeared to me to be poor, but then I'm not a surfer. Behind the beach and stretching towards Kelsey Head is an area of sand dunes. Walking in this area was a little difficult because the sand is so fine so on any incline it was two steps forward and one back. However I perservered, eventually reaching Kelsey Head to walk towards Porth Joke and West Pentire which I will describe next week. See you soon.
